The 1965 GTO could be ordered in three different body styles. The hardtop had no post between the front side and rear side quarter glass. The sport coupe had a pillar or post between these two windows. The convertible was the third body style that the GTO was offered in.

The GTO was redesigned in its second year. Body modifications included; recessed grilles, stacked headlights, a single hood scoop and wrap-around tail lights. The 1965 GTO came standard with special exterior badges, the hood scoop, a 335hp 389ci engine with an optional Tri-power, chrome valve covers and air cleaner(s), dual exhausts, bucket seats and a 3-speed manual transmission with floor mounted Hurst shifter.
