1964 Pontiac GTO Body

In 1964, the GTO made its debut. GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologato. This basically meant that it was a standard automobile that had certified specifications to qualify for various types of competition. Plain english - a race car for the street!

The GTO could be ordered in three different body styles. The hardtop had no post between the front side and rear side quarter glass. When Both windows were rolled down, it created one complete opening. The sport coupe did have a post between the two windows and was lighter because there was no need for the extra roof reinforcement like on the hardtop. The convertible was the third body style that the GTO was offered in.
